Woollensbrook Crematorium praised for ‘excellent level of service’

Woollensbrook Cemetery & Crematorium has been praised by an industry inspector for providing an “excellent level of service provision.”

Ian Rudkin, an inspector for the Federation of Burial & Cremation Authorities (FBCA), concluded that he “did not feel it necessary to make any recommendations” following his visit to the site in August.

The Federation is the UK’s principal representative of burial and cremation authorities, providing a range of services to support its members care for over 400,000 funerals a year.

The FBCA’s Crematorium Compliance Scheme involves scrutinising six separate key areas of service delivery, through discussion and viewing of more than 80 points of interest and Mr Rudkin scored the crematorium 100% in three of those areas.

Woollensbrook Cemetery & Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 42 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, and which is trusted by more families than any other provider to deliver funerals for their loved ones.

All of Westerleigh's locations are set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect, while benefitting from exceptional care and support from its teams.

Woollensbrook Crematorium Manager Mark Winnock said: “I was particularly pleased to see that the inspector gave us the highest possible score in the Service and Staff category.

“This is a reflection of the professionalism and commitment shown every day by the team here at Woollensbrook to ensure that everything we do is done with exceptional levels of care and support.

“Membership of the FBCA is entirely voluntary and not all crematorium operators choose to join.

“However, we take great pride in the consistently high standards we uphold across every aspect of our work, and we welcome the opportunity for our facilities and practices to be independently assessed by industry experts.”

Mr Rudkin found the crematorium “…to be operating in accordance with the three key areas of compliance: 1. The Cremation Regulations 2009, relating to statutory documentation; 2. The Defra Process Guidance notes 5/12, relating to cremation; and 3. The Code of Cremation Practice, relating to all aspects of the service.”
