Personalising Your Funeral

Funerals nowadays are much more personal services, with families having more input than they used to in the past.

One of the biggest changes is the choice of music that is played. More families are choosing specially-chosen recorded music rather than organ music. We have a modern media system at Woollensbrook that has access to over half a million pieces of music. If it has been commercially recorded it is likely we can source it, if it is not already in our music library.

As a guide, we would suggest that a special piece of music is played as the coffin enters and then another piece at the end of the service as the congregation leaves the chapel. Although many funerals still have a hymn or two, this isn’t a necessity. More families prefer to use their time in the chapel listening to music that has a special meaning and hymns can be replaced with more recorded music. It is also particularly poignant to have a quiet piece of music played as the curtains close, as a moment of reflection.

Although a religious service is still popular, with psalms and prayers, many more families choose instead to have a 'Celebration of Life' with special poems and personal readings instead.

Another idea that helps to make your service special is the provision of a framed photo that can be displayed on our easel or a digital photo on our screen during your service or maybe some of your loved one’s favourite possessions. A hat, for instance, that is instantly recognisable!

Alternatively our modern media system can play a video tribute slideshow of photographs from your collection with some backing music. If you wish to have a visual triubte please contact our office as soon as possible to allow time to set this up and for the current fees.

Please be aware, due to copyright issues we are unable to acquire music from video websites such as YouTube unless it has been commercially released.

It is important to note that only video tributes that have been arranged through our media service provider can be played on our chapel system.

We are here to ensure that you have the service that you want. We will work alongside your Funeral Director and help in any way we can.

Recording your funeral

At Woollensbrook Cemetery & Crematorium we have the facility to record your funeral onto an audio disc or a video onto a DVD/USB that you can either keep as a lasting tribute to your loved one or give to a member of the family who were unable to attend the funeral. We can also provide a webcast internet stream of the funeral if relatives live overseas. Please let us or your Funeral Director know if you wish us to record or webcast the service. The CD, DVD, USB takes around 10 – 14 days after the funeral to be compiled and delivered and additional copies can be provided.

Video recording (DVD/Webcasting) of the funeral is from a static webcast camera at the rear of the chapel and will capture the front rows, lecturn and the coffin.

Please refer to our price list for the current fees for the webcasting, video tributes and recording services.
